Lead Data Scientist – Houston, TX / Remote – Advanced Analytics & Machine Learning

Job Summary

Our client is seeking a Lead Data Scientist to drive high-priority analytics initiatives and turn complex, structured and unstructured data into actionable business insights. In this role, you will lead cross-functional projects, develop custom models and algorithms, and mentor other data scientists while partnering with stakeholders to solve meaningful business problems.

This is a direct-hire opportunity with a competitive salary range of $108,000–$136,000 annually. Remote work options are available for candidates based in Georgia, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Tennessee, or Texas.

Key Responsibilities 

  1. Lead high-priority data science projects that directly impact organizational performance and decision-making.
  2. Develop custom data models, algorithms, and predictive solutions to improve operations and answer key business questions.
  3. Perform research, analysis, and modeling on organizational data, including structured and unstructured sources.
  4. Maintain existing models, evaluate goodness of fit, and refine approaches to ensure continued accuracy and relevance.
  5. Provide in-depth data insights using advanced analytics, predictive modeling, data mining, visualization, and pattern analysis.
  6. Develop and test hypotheses, then communicate findings in a clear, precise, and actionable manner to project and leadership teams.
  7. Provide technical supervision and mentoring to other data scientists and support broader team development.
  8. Collaborate with teams to identify, understand, and resolve data issues while improving efficiency, productivity, and scalability of data processes.
  9. Assist with the evaluation of data science vendors and tools to support organizational capabilities.

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, computer science, mathematics, statistics, or a related STEM field.
  2. Seven (7) years of experience in data science.
  3. Deep understanding of machine learning techniques such as clustering, decision tree learning, and artificial neural networks.
  4. Proficient understanding of advanced statistical techniques including regression, distribution properties, and statistical testing.
  5. Advanced knowledge of the data science project life cycle.
  6. Proficient programming skills in Python and working knowledge of statistical analysis tools.
  7. Advanced understanding of SQL database management tools.
  8. Advanced knowledge of data science methods including time series forecasting, linear regression, A/B testing, statistical testing, and clustering.
  9. Strong data visualization and data modeling skills.
  10. Comfort presenting to A-C level leaders and translating complex data into meaningful information for stakeholders.

Preferred Skills

  1. Master's degree in Data Science or a related field.
  2. Professional experience in healthcare data management, medical informatics, healthcare IT/finance, revenue cycle data management, or Electronic Health Record (EHR) data management.
  3. Experience with R, Tableau, big data technologies, and data mining.
  4. Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities independently.
