AI Developer – St. Paul, MN (On-site) – Principal-Level Enterprise AI Architecture

Job Summary

Our client is seeking a principal-level AI Developer to provide technical vision and organizational leadership for enterprise AI initiatives while remaining hands-on in writing code. This role defines and owns the enterprise-wide AI technical architecture, leads highly complex and high-impact AI transformations, and serves as a trusted subject matter expert to executive leadership.

This is a 12-month contract opportunity based on-site in Juno Beach, FL. The successful candidate will establish governance and ethical AI frameworks, set long-term technical standards, mentor top technical talent, and cultivate future leaders. This role also anticipates industry trends and guides strategic investment in emerging AI technologies.

Key Responsibilities

1. Define and own the enterprise-wide AI technical architecture, ensuring scalability, reliability, and alignment with business goals.
2. Lead highly complex, high-impact AI transformations from concept through production deployment.
3. Serve as a trusted subject matter expert to executive leadership, translating technical strategy into business value.
4. Establish governance and ethical AI frameworks to ensure responsible and compliant AI adoption.
5. Set long-term technical standards and architectural patterns for AI/ML systems across the organization.
6. Mentor top technical talent and cultivate future leaders through coaching, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.
7. Anticipate industry trends and guide strategic investment in emerging AI technologies, including LLMs and generative AI.

Required Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
2. 15+ years of experience in software engineering and applied AI.
3. Strong Python proficiency with a track record of production-grade code.
4. Proven experience designing scalable distributed AI systems in enterprise environments.
5. Recognized expertise in AI/ML with measurable enterprise-scale impact.
6. Extensive experience in system architecture, cloud platforms, and data ecosystems.
7. Strong leadership and strategic communication skills, with the ability to influence at the executive level.

Preferred Skills

1. Hands-on experience with machine learning, deep learning, and large language models (LLMs).
2. Practical knowledge of MLOps practices and tooling for model lifecycle management.
3. Working experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP for AI/ML workloads.
4. Background in data engineering, including data pipelines, feature stores, and data governance.
