Senior Accountant – Houston, TX (On-site)


About the Role

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Senior Accountant for a contract engagement based in Houston, TX. This role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who thrives on ensuring the accuracy and integrity of revenue streams within a complex operational environment. You will take a lead role in special projects, researching and analyzing issues that impact the business, recommending solutions, and driving them through to resolution.

As a key member of the accounting team, you will apply your deep understanding of GAAP and SEC regulations to maintain robust internal controls and deliver precise financial reporting. Your expertise in revenue accounting and systems like SAP and Excalibur will be essential to your success.


Key Responsibilities

  • Record operated and non-operated revenue across all product lines, ensuring accurate and timely posting of monthly entries.
  • Prepare cash entries, reclassifications, and process reverse and rebook entries as required to maintain ledger integrity.
  • Analyze accrual-to-actual variances, investigate discrepancies, and conduct financial analysis to validate monthly results.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and complete detailed account reconciliations in both SAP and Excalibur.
  • Perform quarterly reconciliations between Excalibur and SAP to ensure system alignment.
  • Analyze and reconcile intercompany account balances, collaborating with internal departments to gather necessary data.
  • Resolve owner inquiries and non-operated partner issues, including detailed reconciliations and coordination with the Division Order group on Take-in-Kind revenue matters.
  • Coordinate and respond to internal and external audit requests, upholding the integrity of corporate financial data through effective internal controls.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related Business field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with revenue accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and SEC regulations.
  • Proficiency in SAP and Excalibur is essential.
  • Proven ability to perform financial analysis and implement internal controls.
  • Experience with intercompany accounting.


Preferred Skills

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance.
  • Background in oil and gas accounting, including division order analysis and Take-in-Kind revenue.
