About the Role
Our client is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead advanced pre-construction planning and optimization for utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. In this contract role, you will drive technical, financial, and regulatory strategy from early development through construction readiness, ensuring projects are positioned for executive investment decisions and seamless execution.
You will work within a highly matrixed Engineering & Construction environment, coordinating cross-functional teams and external stakeholders to balance scope, risk, and financial feasibility. This is an on-site opportunity based in Juno Beach, FL, with occasional travel to project locations and public hearings.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead pre-construction planning for utility-scale BESS projects, integrating engineering design, financial modeling, procurement strategy, and regulatory constraints to support executive investment decisions.
- Coordinate highly matrixed project development teams, ensuring resources are focused on the right activities to meet critical project schedules.
- Manage environmental, regulatory, cultural, land acquisition, and interconnection variables to enable comprehensive project development.
- Optimize technical scope and project variables to improve both technical and financial feasibility.
- Support origination and development teams with PPA and GIA negotiations, as well as jurisdictional requirements.
- Competitively source, negotiate, and execute commercial contracts for critical services, including geotechnical, survey, engineering, and EPC/PC construction services.
- Present financial models and risk mitigation strategies to executive leadership, managing projects through budget approvals and ensuring a seamless handover to construction.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of project management experience, with a focus on engineering, economics, or construction.
- Demonstrated experience with renewable energy projects; familiarity with electricity markets and battery storage is a strong plus.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is highly desired.
- Advanced Excel skills and excellent financial, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to interface with executive leadership, suppliers, and regulatory agencies.
Preferred Skills
- Six Sigma certification or experience.
- Direct experience with PPA and GIA negotiations.
- Background in procurement strategy and EPC contract management.
- Knowledge of engineering design principles for energy infrastructure.
