About the Role

Our client, a vital institution supporting the nation's economic and financial infrastructure, is seeking an experienced Release Train Engineer to join their dynamic technology team in Kansas City. This is a 12-month contract opportunity where you will play a key role in driving large-scale Agile transformation. You will collaborate with leading professionals to strengthen critical systems while leveraging contemporary and emerging technology.

As the Release Train Engineer, you will serve as a servant leader and coach for the Agile Release Train (ART). Your primary mission is to facilitate ART events, foster relentless improvement, and ensure the smooth flow of value across multiple teams. You will guide leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile practices, helping to align strategy with execution and deliver impactful solutions.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Facilitate Pre- and Post-PI Planning readiness by driving continuous exploration and synthesizing the vision, roadmap, and backlogs.
  2. Summarize team PI objectives into program PI objectives and publish them to ensure visibility and transparency across the organization.
  3. Lead periodic synchronization events, including the ART sync, to maintain alignment and surface dependencies.
  4. Assist with decision-making by facilitating feature and capability estimation and rolling them up to Epics when necessary.
  5. Coach leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile mindsets and practices to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  6. Encourage cross-team collaboration to ensure ongoing alignment between strategy and execution.
  7. Improve the flow of value through value streams by assessing and enhancing practices, anticipating potential issues, and developing mitigation strategies.


Required Qualifications

  1. Typically requires 6 years of relevant experience guiding teams through Agile Release Train processes, including PI planning and synchronization events.
  2. Proven ability to foster collaboration, transparency, and alignment across diverse, cross-functional teams.
  3. Deep experience coaching teams and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile principles and mindsets.
  4. Strong track record of identifying and mitigating risks to ensure the smooth flow of value through value streams.
  5. Bachelor's degree in computer science, project management, business administration, information technology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience.
  6. Must be a United States citizen or a lawful permanent resident alien with at least three years of U.S. residency from the date of legal entry.
  7. Must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future.


Preferred Skills

  1. Certified Scrum Master (CSM) and/or other related Agile certifications are highly preferred.
