Senior Planner Scheduler – Power Generation Operations & NERC Compliance

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Planner Scheduler to support power generation operations and ensure the reliable, compliant, and economical dispatch of generation resources. In this role, you will be responsible for planning, scheduling, coordinating, and tracking critical operational activities while maintaining strict adherence to regulatory requirements and industry reliability standards.

You will collaborate closely with system operators, maintenance teams, and business stakeholders to balance generation and load demands, coordinate outages, and maintain operational readiness. This position is central to optimizing generation resources and supporting efficient power system operations.

This is a 12-month contract role, offered on a remote basis with a preference for candidates located near Juno Beach, Florida.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Schedule and dispatch generation resources to economically balance system load and generation requirements.
  2. Monitor real-time system conditions and support compliance with NERC reliability standards and other regulatory obligations.
  3. Coordinate generation commitments, decommitments, and power plant outages with System Operations and generation business units.
  4. Lead planning and scheduling activities for maintenance, compliance initiatives, and operational projects, including developing and tracking work orders.
  5. Evaluate and approve OASIS requests and energy transaction tags, and perform hourly, on-peak, and off-peak energy accounting with adjacent balancing authorities.
  6. Run generation and cost projection models to inform economic energy purchases and sales decisions, and support next-day generation planning and forecasting.
  7. Lead root cause analysis and event response activities, driving rapid recovery from generation loss events while identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency and work management processes.

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional certification.
  2. 11–15 years of experience in power generation operations, scheduling, system operations, project execution, or compliance reporting.
  3. Strong knowledge of power system scheduling, generation dispatch, and utility operations.
  4. Experience working with NERC reliability standards and regulatory compliance requirements.
  5. Demonstrated experience coordinating operational schedules, maintenance activities, and generation resources.
  6. Knowledge of energy accounting processes and power system operations.
  7. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  8. Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

Preferred Skills

  1. Experience supporting electric utility, power generation, transmission, or energy operations environments.
  2. Knowledge of OASIS transactions, energy markets, and balancing authority operations.
  3. Experience with generation planning and economic dispatch processes.
  4. Six Sigma Green Belt Certification.
  5. Experience leading continuous improvement initiatives and operational excellence programs.
  6. Advanced reporting, forecasting, and data analysis capabilities.
