Senior Power System Studies Engineer – Renewable Energy & Transmission Focus
About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Power System Studies Engineer to support renewable energy and transmission projects within their Engineering & Construction organization. This is a 12-month contract opportunity, fully remote, with a preferred base in the Juno Beach, FL area. In this role, you will provide advanced power system analysis, steady-state and dynamic modeling, and generation and transmission planning expertise to drive critical infrastructure projects forward.
You will collaborate closely with internal teams, ISOs, utilities, and regulatory agencies to manage interconnection processes and ensure compliance with regional modeling requirements. This position offers the chance to contribute new designs and techniques that are regarded as major advances in the industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and validate PSS/E and PSCAD models for transmission line and generation projects to ensure accurate system representation.
- Perform and review steady-state, dynamic, short-circuit, and other power system analyses for transmission lines and renewable facilities.
- Lead transmission line design studies in PSCAD, including line energization, switching overvoltage, shunt reactor sizing, and auto-reclosing assessments.
- Provide technical expertise across all aspects of interconnection processes and operational requirements.
- Partner with ISOs, utilities, and regulatory agencies to manage interconnection processes for renewable generation and transmission assets.
- Ensure compliance with regional modeling standards for new and existing projects.
- Develop software tools that enhance system reliability and organizational efficiency, and contribute industry-leading designs or techniques.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 11–15 years of experience in power system studies, with deep proficiency in PSS/E, PSCAD, Aspen, TSAT, and GE PSLF software.
- Comprehensive knowledge of interconnection procedures as defined by ISOs, utilities, and transmission owners across the U.S.
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering concepts including power flow, stability, voltage regulation, and reactive support.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to prepare presentations and lead technical meetings.
- Valid driver's license with no alcohol- or drug-related driving offenses within the previous five years and a license that is not currently suspended or restricted.
Preferred Skills
While not required, experience developing custom software tools for power system analysis and a track record of introducing major technical advances in the industry are highly valued.
